Inspiring Interns Program
Would you like to pave the pathway to your future while sharing your knowledge and abilities in a stimulating, fast-paced work environment? Then apply for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra's Inspiring Interns Program for Summer 2010 and Fall 2010! Several opportunities are available for undergraduate and graduate students. LSO interns must work 100 hours each semester (or summer). The following positions are available for Summer 2010 and Fall 2010.
Design Intern
Fall 2010
Job Profile: Assist with the planning and implementation of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra marketing, advertising, art direction and design. This involves promotion of all LSO and LYSO events through in-house advertisments, brochures, invitations, e-mail blasts, direct mail, postcards and various print promotion materials. Attendance at all LSO concerts is required.
Candidate Profile: Highly organized, self-motivated, creative thinker, excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills; ability to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines, excellent written and verbal communication skills, basic knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) on both Macintosh and PC platforms. Must have a basic knowledge of grid systems, layout and typography.
Marketing Intern
Fall 2010
Job Profile: Assist with the planning and implementation of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra marketing, advertising and public relations activities. This involves securing program advertisers, contacting media outlets, and promotion of all LSO and LYSO events through various promotional materials. Attendance at all LSO concerts is required.
Candidate Profile: Highly organized, self-motivated, creative thinker, excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills; ability to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a thorough knowledge of MS Office on both Macintosh and PC platforms. Must have a basic knowledge of copy writing and editing.
Education Intern
Summer 2010 and/or Fall 2010
Job Profile: Work with Education Director to assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of LSO Education Department programs, including education concerts, chamber ensemble presentations, and teaching artists presentations. Responsiblilities include assisting with departmental mailings, updating school databases, researching and providing creative input on curricular materials and maintaining contact with the schools. Attendance at the Fall LYSO concert, Fall education concerts and all LSO concerts is required.
Candidate Profile: Interested in education and youth; creative thinker; highly organized; self-motivated; ability to work independently; excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task; computer skills with an emphasis in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. Music majors are preferred, but not required.
Youth Symphony Orchestra Intern
Summer 2010 and/or Fall 2010
Job Profile: Assist with the planning and implementation of Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra activities and events. Work closely with LSYO program director. Work with youth symphony staff and musicians. Help coordinate various LYSO events, including auditioins and concerts. Attend and assist LYSO staff with weekend rehearsals. Attendance at LYSO concerts, chamber concerts, auditions and all LSO concerts is required.
Candidate Profile: Candidate must be able to attend weekend rehearsals, auditions and concerts when in season. Candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently. Interest in education and youth; highly motivated; excellent writing skills; creative thinker; ability to multi-task; excellent communication skills; ability to work under pressure with numerous deadlines; computer skills with an emphasis in Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional. Music majors are preferred, but not required.
Web Support Intern
Fall 2010
Job Profile: Review LSO website regularly to assist in its functionality, accuracy and visual appeal. Work with Marketing Director to coordinate web materials with advertisements, brochures, patron mailings, and LSO news. Supply creative input to make further improvements to the website. Attendance at all LSO concerts is required.
Candidate Profile: Highly organized, self-motivated, and excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, works well individually and in group settings, excellent written and verbal communication skills, works well under pressure and with tight deadlines, familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, thorough knowledge of MS Office and various web editing software. Experience in graphic design/web design is required.
