Inspiring Interns Program

The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra is invested in providing real-world experience to talented collegians from the campuses of Texas Tech University, Lubbock Christian University and South Plains College. The LSO’s ‘Inspiring Interns’ Program provides rewarding internships in the arenas of Education, Administration, Marketing/Design and Web Support. The program offers hands-on work experience in a creative environment within the region’s largest cultural arts organization. Acceptance into the program is competitive and internships are non-compensatory. Interns contribute approximately 10 hours per week to the LSO. In some cases, this work may be used toward class credit. Information about up-coming LSO internships is listed below. ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN

Job Profile: Provide direct assistance to the Director of Patron Services and President/CEO with planning and implementation for the 2016-2017 season. Functions include facilitating strategic plan for ticket sales, event execution, Board meetings, patron communications, essential office functions, etc. and other assignments as needed. This intern opportunity is designed to hone the candidate’s customer service and Public Relations skills. Attendance at all LSO concerts/special events during semester of internship is required.

Candidate Profile: Highly organized, self-motivated, poised, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work effectively under pressure with competing tight deadlines; effective written and verbal communication skills, thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, personal responsibility, professionalism, punctuality, follow-through, and a fierce work ethic. Proficient experience in Excel is required.  Musical background is preferred, but not required.

DESIGN INTERN 

Job Profile: Assist with the planning and implementation of LSO marketing and advertising and public relations activities. This involves designing and editing concert programs, advertisements, brochures, invitations and patron mailings, as well as promoting concerts and events through different media. This intern will also be heavily involved in designing the annual education concert Guidebook which is a long-term, larger scale project. Attendance at all LSO concerts/special events during semester of internship is required.

Candidate Profile: Highly organized; self-motivated; creative thinker; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively under pressure with numerous deadlines; excellent written and verbal communication skills; thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop) and skills in graphic design, demonstrating exceptional talent, personal responsibility, professionalism, and a fierce work ethic. Experience in graphic design is required. Musical background is preferred, but not required.

EDUCATION INTERN 

Job Profile: Work with Education Director to assist in the planning and coordination of LSO Education Department programs, including education concerts, chamber ensemble presentations and teaching artists presentations. Responsibilities include assisting with departmental e-mailings, updating school databases, researching and providing creative input on curricular materials and maintaining contact with area schools. Attendance at all LSO concerts/special events during semester of internship is required.

Candidate Profile: Interested in education and youth; creative thinker; highly organized; self-motivated; ability to work independently; excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task; computer skills with an emphasis in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. Music majors are preferred, but not required. Musical background is preferred, but not required.

MARKETING INTERN

Job Profile: Assist with the planning and implementation of LSO marketing, advertising and public relations activities. The summer intern will concentrate time in executing the orchestra’s program advertising campaign for the 2016-2017 season. This will involve facilitating strategic mailings and additional communications with existing and potential advertisers, managing data via Excel, and securing new program ads for the 2016-2017 season. The role will interface with web support and administrative interns and possibly involve social media communications. Other duties will be assigned as needed. The fall intern will have a dual role as both the Marketing and Administrative intern, with much of the responsibility falling within the admin role. This will require candidates to work closely with staff for patron relations, development and patron tracking. Computer skills including high proficiency in Excel and Word are required.

Candidate Profile: Highly organized; self-motivated; industrious thinker; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work effectively under pressure with numerous deadlines; excellent written and verbal communication skills; thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel. The candidate identified for the role will demonstrate exceptional talent, personal responsibility, professionalism, and a fierce work ethic. Musical background is preferred, but not required.

WEB SUPPORT INTERN

Job Profile: Review LSO website regularly to assist in its functionality, accuracy and visual appeal. Work with Marketing Department to update content of website, including advertisements and LSO news. Supply creative input to Marketing Director to make further improvements to the website. Experience in Joomla is preferred, but not required. Attendance at all LSO concerts/special events during semester of internship is required.

Candidate Profile: Highly organized; self-motivated; excellent problem-solving skills; thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media, including Facebook and Twitter, demonstrating exceptional talent, personal responsibility, professionalism, and a fierce work ethic. Experience in web design is required. Musical background is preferred, but not required.
