EDUCATION CONCERTS
Listen Live!
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra holds its annual free Listen Live! Education Concerts for local and area 5th graders every January. Each year over 8,000 students from over 115 schools attend one of four performances geared directly to 5th graders. Guidebooks given to the students prior to the concerts inform and educate the young concert-goers with activities that will engage the listeners during the concert and provide adjunct learning materials to be incorporated into the classroom. These guidebooks include TEK Objective numbers to help all classroom teachers to integrate the activities from the Guidebook into their daily lesson plans.
Targeting Teens Education Concerts
The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra performs for 6th-12th graders during its Targeting Teens Education Concerts in October. Local and area students are invited to attend the free educational concert each year. Guidebooks are provided for all participating students, and are similar to the Listen Live! Guidebooks. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate activities from the Guidebooks into their daily lesson plans. Activities in Language Arts, Reading, Writing, Geography, Social Studies and History are heavily emphasized in these Guidebooks.
Run-Out Education Concerts
On occasion, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra receives funding and invitations to perform outside the Lubbock area. Like the Listen Live! and Targeting Teens Concerts, students and teachers receive guidebooks with various activities to prepare the concert goers.
